My Journey with Eczema (Part 7)

“Hope is a light that shines like the sun”, a line from a song, but it speaks to the heart of us all especially those of us experiencing challenges.

On this journey with eczema we need hope. On this journey with eczema there is hope.

Hope keeps us alive. Hope helps us to find ways to enjoy life while on our journey. Hope helps us to embrace our illness. Hope helps us to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes, our journey is long and we cannot prevent the circumstances that cause us stress but we certainly can control how we react.

When I had the long flare- up I was extremely concerned. I had my good days and my bad days but overall, I decided I was going to do what I could to lessen my stress level.

I always loved music so during my break-out I found that listening to music was calming.

During the days I would listen to music. At nights when I was unable to sleep because of the itching, I would listen to music.

I listened to reggae, rock and roll, rhythm and blues and inspirational music. My friend would comment that I was always singing and dancing.

I know it sounds cliché to say do not stress over what you cannot control but on our journey with eczema we have to strive to live this saying.

Find a hobby that you love, or explore an activity that you thought you were not good at. Get involved in something and distract yourself with it.

This journey can be stressful but don’t allow it to stress you out.

Yes, eczema not only changes our skin but it readjusts our thinking, our way of life…
